Craig took part in the singing competition in 2011

A former contestant on long-running talent competition The X Factor has spoken out about a homophobic attack that took place at his home.
Craig Colton, who competed in the live finals of the show in 2011, was the target of a frightening ordeal at his home over the weekend, in which knives and anti-gay slurs were involved.

Craig, 28, took to Twitter late on Sunday (23rd March) to tell his followers and fans of the event – and the sad fact that after reporting to police, nothing more can be done about the situation.
‘After a horrible night, of being attacked with a knife and homophobic rants at our own home, we find out the police can’t do anything,’ he wrote, ending the message with a broken heart emoji:

Craig’s partner Shane backed up the tale, responding to one fan’s query by stating that they’re not staying at home out of fear for their safety:
‘We are not at our home as feel in danger, both very sad and unsettled. Worse experience of our life’s! Xx’ [sic]
Craig’s fans have been eager with providing their support through words of encouragement over social media, with many suggesting that they find other methods of getting justice.
‘That is disgusting. [They] can and should do something. I hope you are both ok. I would complain xx,’ responded one, while another dismayed fan suggested going to the press:
‘What do you mean they can’t do anything? Report them to the papers. They’ll do something then.’
Craig appeared on the 2011 series of The X Factor, competing as part of judge Gary Barlow‘s boy category, alongside Frankie Cocozza and Marcus Collins. He was eliminated in week 7, placing 6th; Little Mix went on to win the series.
