Well, last night’s return of the Great British Bake Off saw pretty pink cakes, chocolate elephants and Mary Berry actually commenting there was too MUCH booze! What a rollercoaster…and we’re only one episode in!

With there being custard stealing and the notorious bin-gate in past series, it was only inevitable that SOME drama was going to rise out the Bake Off tent. And surely enough, there was a cake-tastrophe. Uh-oh.

A soggy bottom was the least of 52-year-old Dorret’s problems, as when it came to the showstopper challenge, the poor ol’ thing’s chocolate moose didn’t set in her black forest gateau. It ended up melting away and looked like a ‘mudslide’ as Paul Hollywood put it. Well, it’s the yummiest mudslide we’ve ever seen.

She got tearful, we got tearful. Sue Perkins told her it was just a cake, Dorret and us knew it wasn’t JUST a cake!

But there’s no need for tears Dorret! As viewers of the Great British Bake Off rallied round the baker on Twitter.

Some gave words of support…

And many would still like a slice of Dorret’s disastrous gateau (us included)…

Some knew exactly how Dorret felt – it’s the Bake Off people! A cake is never simply just a cake!

Others thought laugher was the best medicine to get over the whole situation…

But most importantly, viewers were just happy that Dorret didn’t throw whole bloomin’ thing away…

Rocker Stu sadly was the first one to leave the Bake Off tent, when his idea to add beetroot into his gateau didn’t go down well with Paul and Mary. That pair are two tough cookies to impress.

Phew! We’re emotionally drained – put the kettle on as we prepare ourselves for cracking crunches, superb snaps and incessant innuendos for biscuit week next week. We can’t wait!

Find out what last year’s Bake Off contestant Kate thought of the first episode…
