Outspoken star Katie Hopkins got it totally wrong with this tweet - and may live to regret it...

She’s not exactly afraid to say – or tweet – what she’s thinking, but Katie Hopkins could find herself in a spot of bother after it was revealed she’s being sued to the tune of £50,000 over one of her infamous outbursts on Twitter.
The PressGazette reports that the outspoken star sent a tweet directed at Guardian columnist and anti-poverty campaigner Jack Monroe in May last year, implying that the former food blogger supported the vandalisation of war memorials.

‘Scrawled on any memorials lately? Vandalised the memory of those who fought for your freedom? Grandma got any more medals?’ Katie tweeted.
An outraged Jack shot back: ‘I have NEVER scrawled on a memorial. Brother in the RAF. Dad was a Para in the Falklands. You’re a piece of sh*t.’
Jack then asked Katie to not only delete the offending tweet but also publicly apologise and donate £5,000 to ‘migrant rescue’. Katie did indeed delete the tweet, but went on to call Jack ‘social anthrax’.
She eventually issued a public apology, tweeting: ‘I was confused about identity. I got it wrong.’
Katie – who was a columnist for The Sun at the time – said that she’d got Jack confused with another Guardian journo, Laurie Penny, who had responded to ‘f*ck Tory scum’ being scrawled on a war memorial by tweeting: ‘I don’t have a problem with this. The bravery of past generations does not oblige us to be cowed today.’
But it seems that Jack didn’t buy this explanation, saying: ’15 days after accusing me of vandalising war graves & then prompting 577k followers to abuse me for entertainment… ‘Confused’ defence might have held water if we hadn’t actually met, and she didn’t have a history of seeking me out to direct barbed tweets… Eg she deadnamed me at the Ch5 Benefits debate – she did a LOT of digging. Hard to be confused about something you’ve researched that hard.’
Katie has reportedly yet to filed a defence, but still has time in which to do this. More as we have it, folks…
