"If you call Alan, it doesn't matter where in the world he is or how busy he is with what he's doing, he'll get back to you within a day"

Alan Rickman and Daniel Radcliffe

This week has been particularly tragic after the deaths of music legend David Bowie and acting extraordinaire Alan Rickman.

Yesterday, Alan Rickman’s family comfirmed that he had passed away in London from cancer. While Harry Potter and movie fans pay tribute to the actor they have loved for so many years – he starred in classics like Die Hard, Love Actually, and, of course, the Harry Potter franchise as Professor Snape – the people who worked closely with him have eulogised him in their own way.

Particularly the Harry Potter cast, who worked closely with Alan between 2001 and 2011, with most remaining firm friends with the actor.

‘Alan Rickman is undoubtedly one of the greatest actors I will ever work with.

‘I’m pretty sure he came and saw everything I ever did on stage both in Lodnon and New York. He didn’t have to do that.

‘People create perceptions of actors based on the parts they played so it might surprise some people to learn that contrary to some of the sterner characters he played, Alan was extremely kind, generous, self-deprecating and funny.

‘He was one of the first of the adults on Potter to treat me like a peer rather than a child.’

Emma Watson paid tribute to both his political beliefs and the man himself on Twitter and Facebook. On the former she posted a picture with a quote of his, ‘There is nothing wrong with a man being a feminist, I think it is to our mutual advantage’.

Then, a much more personal response:

Matthew Lewis, who plays Neville Longbottom, posted an emotional instagram message about his emotions upon hearing the news.

‘As I walked through the canteen I thought of Alan queuing up for his lunch with us mere mortals. I recalled the trailer in which he offered me some of the greatest advice I ever received about this mad profession we shared.

‘Being back in those corridors made me remember a lot of things and I will treasure those memories all my life. He inspired my career more than he ever knew.’
