Lorraine Kelly celebrates her 56th birthday today, and we’re marking the occasion with a round-up of all the reasons we love the Scottish TV star.

We can’t imagine a world where cheery Lorraine didn’t ease us into the day with her self-titled ITV breakfast show – it’d be like skipping our much-needed first cup of coffee; JUST WRONG.

So, in honour of the lovely lady’s big day, here’s six reasons we love Lorraine…

1. She’s got a SERIOUSLY cheeky streak

When Lorraine interviewed One Direction this year, she couldn’t resist flirting with 22-year-old Niall Horan after he confessed ‘I’m just obsessed with you Lorraine, I can’t even look at you!’ Well, she’s only human.

Add that to the fact that Mighty Boosh funnyman Noel Fielding once revealed she ended up SPANKING him during an episode of Never Mind The Buzzcocks, and that she revealed that she plans on celebrating turning 60 by getting a tattoo on her bum, and it all adds up to one thing: Lorraine is totes cheeks.

2. She’s been going over 30 years – and shows no signs of stopping

Incredibly, Lorraine celebrated 30 years in television last year, having started out as Scotland Reporter on TV-am in 1984. Three decades later and she’s still at the top of her game, cheering up our mornings with her warmth, wit and all-round loveliness. Plus, anyone who can be that chirpy so early in the morning has to be amazing, don’t they?

And she’s not going anywhere soon, recently telling The Times: ‘To be honest, I could never retire.’ Hurrah!

3. This picture

Never mind the fact that Lorraine looks INCREDIBLE in a bikini, the story behind this shot is even more inspiring. As part of this summer’s Bikini Promise campaign – which aimed to help her viewers feel confident in their swimwear and embrace their bodies – Lorraine wore the floral two piece to dance on live TV, wobbly bits and all. Just, wow.

4. She says what we’re all thinking

For years, we’ve struggled with our crush on Piers Morgan (AKA TV land’s equivalent of Marmite). We asked ourselves: ‘Is it OK to fancy him? Is he really that fit? Are we totally mad to feel this way??’ And then Lorraine came along and confirmed that it was, he is, and we’re not by admitting that she found him attractive – and it was a massive relief to know we weren’t alone.

5. She’s not afraid to laugh at herself

Having started her career in the 80s – better known as The Decade Style Forgot – Lorraine has her fair share of style disasters lurking in her past. But, like the happy ray of light she is, she simply laughs her fashion faux pas off. Discussing her ‘terrible’ style choices of yesteryear, Lorraine recently chuckled: ‘It was the 80s but also I never had any time to shop!’ We’ve all been there, Lorraine. We’ve all been there.

6. She plans on ageing naturally

Despite working in the world of showbiz, Lorraine has refreshingly ruled out ‘messing with her face.’ She told The Times: ‘I would never, ever, ever mess around with my face. Ever. Because you don’t know what that’s going to do.’ Good on you, Lorraine!
